Their fashion label The Row has long attracted high praise but Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen have now been named America’s best designers. The 25-year-old twins were awarded the Womenswear Designer Of The Year award at the 2012 Council Of Fashion Designers Of America Awards held in New York earlier tonight.

Their high-end fashion label beat out fellow nominees, and previous winners of the award, Marc Jacobs and Proenza Schouler’s Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez. Their luxury line, which includes clothing and accessories, was established in 2006.
It serves as a massive coup for the pair, who attended the event staged at Lincoln Center with actress Lauren Hutton.

The twins, who rarely allow photographers to snap them with smiles on their faces, managed to squeeze out smirks on the red carpet as a flood of industry heavyweights and Hollywood starlets came out to witness the annual Awards.

They were among several lucky winners who got to take home the prestigious CFDA gongs during the Award’s 50th anniversary event. William Reid was awarded the Menswear Designer Of The Year award and Reed Krakoff won the Accessory Designer Of The Year award. Joseph Altuzarra took out the Swarovski Award For Womenswear and Phillip Lim won the same title in the Menswear category. Tabitha Simmons won it in the Accessory Design category.

Several already established designers were also recognised at the event, which took place inside the Alice Tully Hall.
Tommy Hilfiger received the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award. Actor Johnny Depp, who was unable to attend the event, was also named Fashion Icon of the year. Andrew Rosen won the Founders Award and the Media Award was given to Scott Schuman and Garance Dore. Mr Schuman is behind the blog The Sartorialist while Miss Dore is also a fashion photographer and blogger.

Rei Kawakubo was awarded the International Award but was also unable to attend the ceremony.

Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are ‘thrilled’ their range of Superga sneakers sold out.

The design duo – who have ranges including Elizabeth and James and The Row – were delighted when they were asked by Steve Madden to be involved with the collection and are pleased with how they have been received.

Ashley said: ‘When we first met with Steve Madden, who we’ve collaborated with for a long time, I was wearing my old, beat-up Superga and he said, ‘Oh I’ve been wanting to buy that company,’ and I said, ‘Well, you know if you do, please think of us.’

‘Now our styles for The Row have sold out in a matter of hours when they first came online, and were thrilled, we really are.’

However Mary-Kate’s favourite pair in the collection are not even ones she can wear.

She told WWD.com: ‘You just want to grab all the little baby ones, the little cashmere baby ones. They’re amazing.’

Mary-Kate has previously revealed she would never leave the house if she wasn’t happy with her outfit.

She said: ‘I think as soon as you start dressing for someone else, it goes wrong. I can’t leave the house if I don’t like what I’m wearing. I mean, I literally can’t.’

MARY-Kate Olsen is dating a much older man!

The former child star has apparently hooked up with former French president Nicolas Sarkozy‘s younger brother, Olivier Sarkozy.

“It’s true, they’re dating, and she’s definitely interested in him,” a source said.

Ashley is 25; her new paramour is 42. Sources say their age differences suits her just fine.

“MK is constantly complaining about boys not being mature enough for her,” the source explains. “She got the kids out of her system. Now being a businesswoman dominates her time, and she is rarely impressed with guys.

“They are good for each other.”

The once-divorced Sarkozy split from his last serious girlfriend, actress Stella Schnabel, in March. On April 25, Sarkozy and Olsen attended a Knicks game together and hit the Hamptons over Memorial Day weekend.

Olsen’s most recent longterm relationship was with artist Nate Lowman, from whom she split in 2010.
